If you're like most fishermen, you probably use an ordinary
nail clipper to clip off excess monofilament. Here's a picture of the clippers

I made this clipper do double duty as a hook remover by filing a notch into the tip of the thumb lever, as shown here:

Now, when I catch a fish with a mouth too small for convention forceps or pliers, I just turn the thumb lever around and use it to reach into the fish's mouth and back the hook out. It works great.

It’s cheap, easy to do, and only takes about 5 minutes to file the small notch. Try it on your clippers.
