Hunting Log

The Hunting Log actually serves two purposes. The most obvious is to record the game taken and the circumstances of the hunt. Each main record represents a single day. Within that day afield you can record multiple sightings of game or game taken and further break them down by species, location, and other details.

The second purpose is to record the results of scouting trips. Scouting is important to hunting success. Keeping accurate accounts of game sighted, weather conditions at the time, and the locations of game sightings will contribute to your ability to take game when the hunting season begins.

Remember to enter notes about the performance of your equipment, too, in the Notes field. Maybe a game call didn’t sound very good due to a cracked reed, or maybe one call just worked better than another. Maybe your range-finder needs calibrating, or maybe you need to replace a strap on your tree stand.

Accurate, detailed records will not only help you maintain your current equipment, they can also help you make intelligent decisions when buying new equipment.

If you have photos of game or other objects worth remembering, it is recommended that you store them on your computer's hard drive, then refer to their locations in the Photo Gallery with a cross-referencing comment in the Note field of the Hunting Log.
